Limak Construction Holding believes it can meet 4 percent of Turkey’s energy needs once they complete their renewable energy projects, according to board member Batuhan Özdemir.
They are about to launch hydroelectric power plant projects that have suffered from years of setbacks. Özdemir told the Anatolia news agency that Drenhes, the joint initiative of Bilgin Elektrik and Limak Holding, had the license for three hydroelectric plants for 49 years, but the Seyrantepe plant won’t be finished until 2008. Construction hasn’t started, but when the Tatar and Pembelik power plants are complete Limak will provide Turkey with 1 billion kilowatt-hours of renewable energy per year. Özdemir said these investments target eastern Anatolia and would provide new job opportunities in the region, which suffers from high unemployment. He added that they would be able to provide electricity to regions where it was most needed via an interconnected system.
