The operating rights for İstanbul’s second airport, Sabiha Gökçen, were transferred yesterday to İstanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airports AŞ (ISGIA).The ISGIA was established by a consortium between Limak Holding (LİMAK), GMR Infrastructure and the Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) that won the tender for the airport on July 9, 2007, with a bid of 1.93 billion euro. ISGIA acquired the operation rights for 20 years.ISGIA CEO Yetik K. Mert said in a written statement that they were going to support and improve Sabiha Gökçen airport with qualified human resources and know-how. Sabiha Gökçen was the fastest-growing airport in Europe between 2002 and 2007. The groundbreaking ceremony of a new international flights terminal, which will serve 10 million passengers annually, will be held on May 3.
