Terminal at Sabiha Gökçen best

 -
The new international terminal building at Sabiha Gökçen Airport, located on Istanbul’s Anatolian side, has been called the best earthquakeresistant building in the world by Wired magazine, daily Vatan reported Tuesday. According to the American publication, the singlebuilding terminal stands on 300 seismic isolators and was built on an area of 184 decares. Atilla Zekioglu, an engineer working for Arup Company, which designed the new terminal, said the building was designed to decrease the risk of damage during earthquakes. Zekioglu and his team of engineers used a program called Dyna to conduct 14 different earthquake simulations. Michael Constatiniu, a seismic- isolation expert at New York University, said the system used at Sabiha Gökçen Airport resembles that used at San Francisco Airport, but incorporates the latest technology.
