The factory which is established on an area of 80.000 m2 in the port area of Matola in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, started its sales activities in the last quarter of 2016. The Project was carried out in line with the sustainability targets of the group, and in full compliance with the World Bank norms in the fields of environment, human resources and social responsibility. In 2019, Limak Cimentos SA continued to increase its market share and sustained its position as one of the top 3 producers in the country.
2019 was a year that Limak Cimentos SA started to reap the fruits of the planning and efforts made in line with the sustainability targets of our country and Limak Cement Group, apart from its success in production and sales activities. Limak Cimentos SA, which received the country’s first local product certificate in 2018; was entitled to receive the “Made in Mozambique” certificate in the same year, which is one of the prestigious quality indicators of the country, even though it was in operation only for 15 months. According to Mozambique laws, in order to obtain this certificate, a minimum two- year operation period is needed in addition to the legal requirements that must be met. However, Limak Cimentos SA was deemed worthy of this certificate by official institutions without waiting for the required period based on observation and appreciation of the product quality, environmental awareness and the high level of institutionalism of the factory.
The company deemed worthy of the “Best Industrial Investment Award in Mozambique between the Years of 2014-2017”. In this context, the prize was given by the Prime Minister of Mozambique at the opening ceremony of FACIM which is the largest exhibition of the country, on August 27, 2018.
Although Limak Cimentos SA operates with a cement production capacity of 700,000 tons/ year, during the project design it was planned in a manner that can easily reach a capacity of 1,500,000 tons/ year. As a matter of fact, for the country, which is one of the important entry gates of East Africa with the worldwide known natural gas and coal reserves, there are medium and long-term investment plans for increasing the grinding capacity of the current factory and for solar power plant, concrete plants, construction building materials and integrated cement factory installation.
Also, with its strategic location close to the ports, the factory can significantly contribute to the development of trade between Turkey and Mozambique as well as to the development of the construction industry of the region with the fully equipped cement R & D laboratory that was established.
